Which would be better for us, taking out a home equity loan or refinancing?

19 Aug

My husband and I want to take about $15,000 to pay off debt and renovate our home, which we just purchased last July. Our current interest rate is 7.25% and we owe about 65k on our home that appraised at 100k. The problem is that our credit is not great and not well established. Which would be the best option for us, home equity loan or refinance?

When applying for a home mortgage loan is it better to say you have found the home or that you haven’t?

25 May

Just wondering when they ask you if you have found the home you were looking for or if you are still looking, which is better to say or does it matter? I’m a first time buyer looking for the best rate out there. Any suggestions?

Is it better to buy a home from the owner or go through a realtor?

22 May

My husband and I are thinking about buying our first home. Is it better to go thru a realtor or if the home is in real good condition, just go through the owner? Also, if we were to go with getting it from the owner, will that effect our home loans that we can get since we are first time home buyers? We are in the process of improving our credit and going through the steps of looking at grants and loans. If we buy from the owner, would we still be able to legally use that money?
Also, my husband is in the Army. Will we be able to use the VA as well for assistance if we go with the home owners?

Is clearing the home loan a better option or should I go with the regular EMIs for the entire tenure ?

05 May

I already have a home loan with ICICI on a floating interest rate. I’am looking for another loan.Should I clear this loan first to avail another loan or should I continue paying the EMIs for the entire tenure(This is a huge amount I will be paying by the end).
“Clearing a home loan” is what I meant of getting rid of the loan by making a pre-payment.

I need a career/steady job that pays well. What would be the better 2yr degree, Interior Design or Radiography?

04 May

I figure Radiology has more opportunities & more demand but Interior Design sounds more fun. Not sure what the job sitch REALLY is for either job because I think the stats you find online may be somewhat inaccurate.

What would be better, a home equity loan or refinance at lower rate to add on to my home?

22 Apr

I’m wanting to add on to my home but I’ve never used a home equity loan. I have used the refinance method where you borrow a little extra to add on. What would be the best now, with the way the economy is and the interest rates unstable?

Do you have a better chance of qualifying for a home morgage if you are working rather than retired?

28 Mar

Home lone qualifying
FIY I never bought a home, but have worked almost 39 years in the Railroad industry. The pension plan is the Railroad Retirement anuity, and insured by the government. I have calulated my pension, and will make about $900 a month more retired than working. It is a good pension.
I want to relocate back to my home state when I retire and was wondering when to buy, before or after retirement.

Is the government trying to give socialized internet access so they can monitor people better?

28 Feb

I was trying to think about why the Democrats kept pusing for government socialized internet access and based off of the other behavior of Obama, Bush, and even Clinton I realized why.

The private companies providing access makes it harder for the government to monitor who searches what when and to more heavily monitor the internet.

One of my customers used to work for the White House under clinton in the data mining department. He said that when people would search the internet they could monitor everything they surf including bank and credit card information. I was shocked by this, but it brought everything together for me.

This can be effective in combating terrorism, but is a massive invasion of privacy if misused.

For those of you that were afraid of Bush listening in on your phone conversations, this should really scare you and is much more invasive to me. What if you write something they do not like? They are watching everything.

The Clinton administration consistently championed the
> right of government employees to stick their noses
> almost anywhere — into people’s email, car, house, or
> personal effects. Clintonites set off one false alarm
> after another to justify extending government’s right
> to intrude. The administration consistently sought to
> exploit technological development in order to maximize
> government’s control over the citizenry.

> A 1998 ACLU report observed that the Clinton
> administration had
>
> engaged in surreptitious surveillance, such as
> wiretapping, on a far greater scale than ever
> before…. The Administration is using scare tactics
> to acquire vast new powers to spy on all Americans.
> On April 16, 1993, the Clinton administration revealed
> that the National Security Agency had secretly
> developed a new microchip known as the Clipper Chip. A
> White House press release announced “a new initiative
> that will bring the Federal Government together with
> industry in a voluntary program to improve the
> security and privacy of telephone communications while
> meeting the legitimate needs of law enforcement.” This
> was practically the last time that the word
> “voluntary” was used.
>
> The Clipper Chip presumed that it should be a crime
> for anyone to use technology that frustrates curious
> government agents. The ACLU noted,
>
> The Clipper Chip proposal would have required every
> encryption user (that is, every individual or business
> using a digital telephone system, fax machine, the
> Internet, etc.) to hand over their decryption keys to
> the government, giving it access to both stored data
> and real-time communications. This is the equivalent
> of the government requiring all home-builders to embed
> microphones in the walls of homes and apartments.
> Marc Rotenberg, director of the Electronic Privacy
> Information Center, observed, “You don’t want to buy a
> set of car keys from a guy who specializes in stealing
> cars.” When the federal National Institute for
> Standards and Technology formally published the
> proposal for the new surveillance chip, fewer than one
> percent of the comments supported the plan.
>
> The administration eventually abandoned its Clipper
> campaign but stepped up its attacks on purveyors of
> encryption software.
