I own my home in Shamokin Dam, PA and I am trying to see if some local building contractor would be willing to show me and help me put up a addition to my home ? I can only afford to do the actual cost of the materials. I am willing to work hard and to learn but I cannot afford to pay the going $63 – $86 per sq. ft rate contractors want for labor. Any suggestions.

get the required material stop by your local contractors building site at lunch and offer his employees a after work job. simple as that.

You may find a contractor willing to consult with you at an hourly rate. This may fit in their schedule between jobs or in an afternoon when they finished another job early. Or you may want to hire them for part of the work.
If you are not in a hurry, I suggest you volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. You’ll learn all the necessary building skills and be helping deserving families as well. There is an affiliate in nearby Selinsgrove, as well as Northumberland, Millersburg, Bloomsburg, and McAlisterville.

Check with local high school .. if there is a technologyvocational school associated with it, they will often do the work for very little for the experience it gives the students .. I teach Electricity at a technology center in KY .. we do this often ..

i agree w/ tech dude it’s the easiest,cheapest,and good way to meet a couple guy’s on site who may help you. how big a remodle? you may need a permit, but a couple bucks to a contactor for his licence # on it could help.

The total national average for materials and labor is $108 per sq ft. The contractors want $63 to $86 per square for just labor. Wow that is really high for just labor I just got done building my house that has 2100 sq ft in the main floor with the finished basement it would be 4200 sq ft with a 4 stall garage with front and rear ceder decks. The total cost for everything I had to pay was $183,000 total this price includes the price of the lot which was $30,000.
My price per sq ft was $87.14 for the main floor or if including the basement it would work out to be $45.57
So if you look at the prices the contractors are ripping you off.
